The start of the Rat year has been somewhat marred by the spread of the Wuhan virus and the repercussion that it brings – from the false news to the shortage of masks. I’ve received many questions with regards to this and understand your concerns to protect your loved ones with Fengshui.

In the flying star school of Fengshui, our compass directions are divided into 9 sectors – some friends refer to as a tic-tac-toe diagram. In these sectors, we look to place some cures or remedies to alleviate the negative afflictions of the inauspicious stars and also place some suitable items on the sectors with auspicious stars in attempt to harness the good energy within.

The sectors update yearly and this is the chart for 4 Feb 2020 – 3 Feb 2021.

 

South East 6	South 2	South West 4

North East 1	North 3	North West 8

So how to use the chart? There are many schools with differing opinions on this, so to make it simple for all, please stand in the middle of your house and find your directions from a compass – a simple compass from the stationery shop is sufficient. Then place your cures or suitable Fengshui items in that direction.

Let’s start with the negative stars.

First, the South. This year the sickness star arrives at the South. South is fire in elemental representation hence it actually intensify the Star 2, making it quite strong in 2020. Traditional way to suppress this will be through the placement of a metal gourd, or Hu Lu 葫芦 at this direction. You can also choose to place some white/ silver or gold or bronze items at this direction. South in 2020, is the direction where it opposes the Star of Jupiter or the Tai Sui. Coupled by the fact that it is affected with 3 killings – another negative energy, renovation in this area is not recommended.

For those who are very worried about the Star 5 – misfortune star, indeed, the East is afflicted. However, East reflects the wood element which by itself serves to minimise the effect of this star. For this, it is recommended to place a white carpet or some metal items in this area.

Robbery Star 7 which is another menace star that lies unfortunately in the middle. This can pose a challenge to many homes as it is quite difficult to keep this place quiet. To minimise the effect of such a star, the use of blue coloured items such as a blue carpet can be used.

Finally the quarrelsome star 3 is located at the North in 2020. North reflects the water element and incidentally is the sector where the Tai Sui or Star of Jupiter lies. Hence renovation in this area is not recommended. As the elemental energy here is quite strong, it is recommended to use some lights in this area or red coloured items would be good. If you have Pi Xiu 貔貅, you might want to face the celestial figurines with its head facing the North this year – to appease the Tai Sui.

How about the $$$$$$ wealth star?!! This is the most important question that everyone is asking. The prosperity star 8 is residing at the North-West. Hence it will be good to place some moving water feature in this sector if it is suitable to increase your wealth efforts in 2020.

Star 9 at the West is also another auspicious star which you might want to enhance! This star represents future prosperity or perhaps long term success. It is recommended to place some auspicious items such as a treasure chest box or auspicious items in the number of 9 items or simply some water feature will do the trick!

For those looking for promotion and recognition at work, the star 6 which represents Heaven Luck is located at the South East. If your door opens at this sector, there is no need to do anything and you will reap the good effects of the star! This applies to all the sectors, hence there is no need to ensure that all parts of the house is “Fengshui-ed”. Sometimes less is more. Feng Shui is also known as the art of placement. Hence it should be graceful and pleasing to eye rather than just following all the suggested ideas blindly.

For those in business and sales where there are great competitions, you might want to pay attention to the North-East this year where the Victory Star is located. Hence you might want to place some auspicious items such as moving Flags or all your trophies or awards in this area to get an edge over your competitors.

Similar for families with school going children, the South-West will be of particular interest for you as it is where the yearly academic star resides. Suitable placement of 4 bamboo shoots or academic items in this area is recommended. It is also the sector for romance! Hence for those looking to find love, get some heart-shaped rose quarts, who knows, you might find yourself getting into a new relationship! If you are already sleeping in this sector, perhaps you might find yourself suddenly very intelligent or get some romantic encounters!
